Attendance
Attend to Achieve
Every day of school is an opportunity for students to learn, grow, and connect. Consistent school attendance is one of the single most powerful predictors of student success–academically, socially, and emotionally. Families, school staff and community members all play a role in supporting student attendance at school.

Each school has an attendance phone line to report absences 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Parents/guardians may also submit absences online using the ParentVue app.

Communication is important
School attendance is mandatory in the state of Minnesota. It's important for students to be at school every day in order to be successful. School staff want to partner in this!
When your student will not be at school, report the absence or schedule change.
This is important if your child is arriving late or leaving early, too. Absences that are not reported are considered unexcused.
If your family is going through a hard time for any reason, call the school social worker for help.
It's a team effort! We are committed to partnering with families to remove barriers, provide support, and ensure every student feels safe, welcome, and motivated to learn every day.
Students who are ill should not be in school. If you have questions, contact the school nurse.
Research has shown that students with an optimal level of wellness are more receptive to the learning process.Health services school staff work to eliminate/minimize health-related barriers to learning.

- Family situation.

- Report the absence online or use the ParentVUE mobile app.

What to report
Families are asked to specify three simple details when reporting an absence:
- Specify your student's name.
- Provide the date of the absence.
- Include the reason for the absence.
Truancy flowchart
3 unexcused absences = letter from school.
6 unexcused absences = letter from school and report to local county.
Reports to the county may initiate intervention through the county to support families in improving student attendance due to educational neglect (children ages 11 and under) or truancy (ages 12 and up).
Excessive absences
10 excused absences = Family will receive a letter from the school with information on next steps to take. This letter may state that personal or illness absences without a doctor's note will no longer be excused.
15 consecutive absences = The student is unenrolled from school.
More information about attendance can be found in the Anoka-Hennepin School District handbook.
Policies
In compliance with Minnesota State Statutes:
- After a student has three unexcused absences in a school year, school administration will provide notification to the student’s parent(s)/guardian(s) that their student is potentially truant.
- After seven unexcused absences, the student will be considered habitually truant and school administration may file a report with the county in which the school is located or with the county where the child resides. School administration will follow the reporting, diversion and due process procedures established by the county in which the report is filed.
- After a student has been absent (excused or unexcused) more than 10 times in a the school year a letter will be sent home informing the student, parent(s) or guardian(s) about the student’s high number of absences; potential supports available through the school to support future attendance; and potential consequences for future non-attendance.
